Gawain

Gawain is a frontline damage sponge who excels at cheating death while simultaneously boosting the damage output of her team. She becomes significantly stronger as you invest in her UR and UR-EX gear.

Strengths

1. Exceptional Survivability (The “Three Lives” Mechanic) Gawain is incredibly difficult to kill. Her kit includes a “Death Immunity” mechanic where she restores HP and Shields instead of dying.

  • Base: She survives lethal damage once per battle.
  • With UR Level 3 (Sacred Purification): This effect triggers twice per battle. Essentially, the enemy has to kill her three times to remove her from the field.
  • Sun Knight State (UR-EX): Once she reaches 12 stacks (by being hit), she enters a state where damage taken is reduced by 99%, making her practically invincible for that duration.

2. Team-Wide Damage Amplification Unlike selfish tanks who only protect themselves, Gawain aggressively buffs her team.

  • Swift Wind: Automatically buffs the Back Row’s damage by 20% (scales to 30% with UR-EX 2) and the Front Row by 10%.
  • Inspire (Final Ult/Mega Ult): Further increases the team’s Ultimate Damage and standard Damage Dealt.
  • Weaken: She applies a debuff to enemies that makes them take more damage from Skills and Ultimates.

3. Disruption and Control

  • Taunt (UR Level 1): She has a 50% chance to Taunt enemies with her Skill, forcing them to attack her. This protects your squishy damage dealers.
  • Fury Control (UR Level 3): Her “Holy Light Explosion” reduces enemy Fury restoration speed and directly reduces the Fury of the enemy with the highest Fury, preventing them from using their Ultimates.

4. Cleanse Support (UR Level 3) At high investment, she acts as a cleanser. Before every action, she randomly dispels negative effects from allies, which helps keep your DPS units free of stuns or DoTs (Damage over Time).

Weaknesses

1. Reliance on “Getting Hit” (Ramp-up Time) To reach her peak form (Solarflare Knight/UR-EX), she needs to gain [Mark] stacks. She gains these stacks by being attacked. If the enemy ignores her (and her Taunt fails to trigger), she remains in her weaker states ([Night Veil] or [Dawn Blessing]) longer, delaying her invincible [Sun Knight] form.

2. PvE Damage Caps Several of her damage skills deal “extra DMG equal to 2.5% of target’s Max HP.” The text explicitly states this is ineffective in PvE. While she is still an excellent tank in Boss battles due to her buffs, her personal damage output will drop significantly against Bosses compared to PvP.

3. Heavy Investment Required Gawain is a “scaling” investment character.

  • Without UR Level 1, she lacks Taunt.
  • Without UR Level 3, she loses her second resurrection and team cleanse.
  • Without UR-EX, she loses the 99% damage reduction mode. She requires significant resources to function as a top-tier “God” unit.

When receiving lethal DMG, the number of death immunity effects that can be triggered per battle increases to 2.

When Gawain possesses [Knight’s Shield], before each action, randomly dispels 1 negative effect from all allied heroes. For each negative effect dispelled, restores own [Knight’s Shield] by 2% of its Max Value.

Holy Light Explosion additionally reduces Fury Restoration Speed of all enemies by 20%. Lasts for 1, and reduces the Fury of the enemy with the highest Fury by 100.
